Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) about SkyWin®

Installation topics

Q — Why do I get a message telling me "The Windows Installer cannot update the system file <File_Name> because the file is protected by Windows. You may need to update your operating system for this program to work correctly."?
A — This message tells you that you (might) have to update your Windows installation using "Windows Update". Normally SkyWin® will work just fine even if you don't.

Q — Why does the Program Compatibility Assistant say that my installation might have gone bad?

A — The program used for packaging SkyWin® installation isn't supported on newer versions of Windows but has been proven to work correctly. Simply ignore this error by choosing Cancel in the dialog.

Q — Why do I need to install MDAC (Microsoft Data Access Component) version 2.0 before I install version 2.6 or higher?
A — Since version 2.6 of MDAC, Microsoft has removed the support for MS Access databases. That support is included in the installation of MDAC version 2.0.

SkyView topics

Q — How do I start SkyView?
A — In SkyWin, File | Options | SkyView - make sure that creation of SkyView-files is selected and make a note of the location.
Just open SkyView.html from that location in your favorite browser, that's it!

Q — Why doesn't SkyView show any loads or jumpers, even though there are lots of loads in SkyWin?
A — SkyView will only show loads that are registered on the current date. Even if you look at loads with another date in SkyWin, they will not show up in SkyView.

Q — I want to customize the look of SkyView, how can I do that?
A — Just make your changes to SkyView.css and SkyView will read and use the changed style sheet next time it reloads.
Or, if you would like to make your own HTML you can use SkyView.xml instead.

Q — I messed up SkyView.css or SkyView.js. How can I create new ones?
A — In order to let each customer make changes to SkyView.css and SkyView.js they will NOT be overwritten. If you want SkyWin to create new ones with standard values you will have to rename or delete them.
